IMA 505, Paper Three

Preface

Fine art describes an art form mainly developed for aesthetics. Today the fine arts include visual and performing art forms. In modern days more and more visual arts is widely considered to be a more descriptive phrase for current art practices. With the amazing development of our techniques, people are creating more and more arts with the help of those technologies. That’s how Internet art come. It is art which uses the Internet as its primary medium. The artists who work in this manner are sometimes we call as net artists. The ideas they are creating, make profound changes to those traditional art of the Beautiful. As Paul Valéry said “In all the arts there is a physical component which can no longer be considered or treated as it used to be, which cannot remain unaffected by our modern knowledge and power.” With the development of our society the way of people’s life is changing, at the same time as one part of life the art is innovating. We must accept great innovations to transform the entire technique of the arts, in order to help our people to understand an amazing and very notion of art.

The brick and mortar way of art.

In the long road of human history, Art manifested humanity’s wisdom. In a lot of early art which it is a kind of activity, and the next is the result of artwork activity. The early art behavior is possibly humanity’s only experimental activity, and also it is the interlinked place between human and science. Here it is filling the exploration and reconsideration, and so it is an important aspect of the human mental progress. There are a lot of art forms, but the platform for audiences is limited greatly. For example in fine arts area, some works are valuable because they made from some great masters. So people are hardly to see them. As a matter of fact, this traditional art form limited the development of art in the public. Therefore the art itself can’t make a progress without any values. As far as I am concerned this is truly limitation for the brick and mortar way of art. In those times where selling art is difficult, art galleries are really a not safe harbor for self-representing artists and emerging artists to present their work, create their art and find their clients.  When in the same time they would find it very difficult to get an Art gallery to host their artworks. Since a long time artists were hoping and finding a way to help them better selling their artworks.

“Just as water, gas, and electricity are brought into our houses from far off to satisfy our needs in response to a minimal effort, so we shall be supplied with visual or auditory images, which will appear and disappear at a simple movement of the hand, hardly more than a sign.”

After 1990s the whole Internet has opened to the public and it developed at a tremendous speed. Until now we have to admit that Internet has become one part of our life, just as water, gas, electricity. So in that time the mainstream art world awakened to the telecommunications revolution of the 1990s, a new landscape of exploration had dawned outside its windows. Internet art or Net art matured at the same high pace with which digital technology itself has expanded. With the development of image-capable browser for the World Wide Web, Internet art has become a major movement with a global audience. By 1995 at very inception, eight percent of Web sites were designed and produced by artists, absolutely the artist got an great opportunity to shape a new medium. Since that time art were not only limit in the certain region for only small group people, all people around the world participate art event to be one part of art. The artists have more chances to share and sell their artist works and new ideas to the public. Like some famous museums the British Museum, Louvre Museum and so on they place more emphases on the website structure. Encouraged by a growing excitement over the Internet and museum exhibitions have brought internet art to the art’s future.

The humanity always in unceasingly explores, the new thing substitutes for the old thing, the new thought replaces the old thought, in order to seek the development. It is not so far since internet was first brought into our life, so Internet art is also being at the initial period of development. And present network art close connected with technology. As far as I am concerned low level technical art is not network art. The Internet art nowadays, the new technology is the big difference from the regular art and it is the foundation for the Internet art. In the future of Internet art, it is hard for us to imagine what is look like but one point we can make sure the Internet artists will take more emphases on interaction. Internet art is different from the traditional art, it relies on the entire national technology and the economical development. So business is also an important aspect for those artists. That means they should make more artworks at the same time they should be serious doing some business to keep this artificial exosphere developing. This market is competitive artists should understand and use the rule in order to survival. As I think in the future internet art area, a successful artwork is not only the artistic creation itself but also how can artist guide the artistic application of new technologies dominate the market.

“Our arts were developed, their types and uses were established, in times very different from the present, by men whose power of action upon things was insignificant in comparison with ours. But the amazing growth of our techniques, the adaptability and precision they have attained, the ideas and habits they are creating, make it a certainty that profound changes are impending in the ancient craft of the Beautiful. In all the arts there is a physical component which can no longer be considered or treated as it used to be, which cannot remain unaffected by our modern knowledge and power.”

In the future time people will rely on Internet much more than nowadays. Internet technology will provide much more spacious platform for artist. With the help of this platform, artwork will be created more and because the feature of the internet, more people could join. Internet art is like a platform that will integrate different types of arts as a whole. Thereby affecting artistic invention itself and it must bring an amazing change in the notion of art.

Epilogue

We are on the high way of new technologies development. Art and science are connecting with each other. People need more interactive issues to attract them so I feel in the next several years there will be more artists to commit to the development of Internet art. However some people still feel misgiving about the Internet art. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing could be eternal. Moreover, we are in an era of rapid development of network. So Internet art is also art and it is more than traditional artistic characteristics. As the sam  as photography and the film strip they were significant vision technological developm ent of last century. Similarly, nowadays it will also inevitably affect the artistic development. What people talk today about Internet art is much more important than the development of movie and photography. Because it combines video, sound, hypertext, and it has been possible to link in the inexhaustible other texts and might enter by many kinds of ways. This already caused the hypertext to become a labyrinth. From what present people conceives the internet technology views, today internet art is only a beginning. We still have more to explore and develop. For art internet means comprehensive revival. We know that during modernism, each kind of art is isolate. Internet ties up each kind of art together From the Internet art development in America and Europe, we can see very clearly from the beginning it was connected with commercial interest. Therefore it doesn’t only demonstrate art but also demonstrate the new technical product. It is like visiting product exhibition if you visit this new media exhibition. And the difference is you may have a visit at any time anywhere so long as you are in the network area. http://www.understandingduchamp.com/
